Burnley suffered their first league defeat under Nicky Hayen as West Brom came from behind to secure a convincing 3-1 victory at The Hawthorns.
The Clarets were handed an early advantage when Jacob Bruun Larsen’s dangerous cross was turned into his own net by Callum Styles after eight minutes. However, the lead lasted just 10 minutes, with Harry Whitwell firing through the Burnley defence to bring Albion level.
West Brom took control after the break, with Isaac Price putting the hosts ahead almost immediately after the restart with an excellent finish from 20 yards. Price then added his second from the penalty spot after Bashir Humphreys was adjudged to have fouled Whitwell inside the area.
Burnley struggled to respond as Albion’s intensity proved too much, leaving Hayen’s side still searching for their first Championship win of the season.
Reflecting on the game, Clarets Boss Nicky Hayen said “They beat us especially in energy and desire,” he said. “Without that energy and hunger, you cannot win games,”
“Especially in the second half, we played more like individuals than as a team.
“No structure anymore, no discipline.” Hayen Added.
Player Ratings
Max Weiß – 5.5
Could do little to lift a poor overall display. A difficult afternoon in a side beaten three times.
Oliver Sonne – 3.5
A poor first half and was taken off at the break. Struggled badly before being hooked.
Kyle Walker – 4.5
Caught out of position and continued to struggle. Part of a defensive performance that never looked comfortable.
Max Allyene – 6
Quiet rather than disastrous. Did little wrong but failed to make much impact.
Bashir Humphries – 5
A poor game overall and unfortunate to concede the penalty. Withdrawn after 78 minutes.
Josh Laurent – 6
An average display in a game where the midfield struggled to take control.
Hannibal – 5
Far too quiet. Looked short of his usual intensity and struggled to influence proceedings.
Ramsey – 6
Another subdued performance. Neat enough at times, but offered little decisive impact.
JBL – 7
The standout performer despite the result. Positive, lively and one of the few players who looked capable of making something happen.
Broja – 6.5
A respectable showing before being replaced. One of the better performers in a poor team display.
Edwards – 3
A very poor afternoon and the lowest rating of the day. Struggled throughout, lack of end product is worrying.
Substitutes
Connor Roberts – 4.5
Another difficult showing after coming on at half-time. Some leeway for it being his first league appearance sine May 2025 after overcoming a series of injruies.
Amdouni – 6
Quiet after coming on and unable to change the direction of the game.
Satpaev – 6.5
Lively from the bench and showed encouraging pace in his cameo.

A decent substitute appearance and perhaps unlucky not to have started.
Pires – N/A
Only played 12 minutes, so not enough time for a fair rating.
