Tottenham have won eight of their nine Premier League home games against Burnley, with the Clarets’ only victory coming in 2017. Chris Wood scored on his debut in injury time to secure a 1-1 draw at Wembley Stadium.
This is Burnley’s fifth opening-day fixture against a “big six” side, having faced Manchester City (2023/24), Manchester United (2020/21) and Chelsea (2014/15, 2016/17) previously.
The Clarets begin a Premier League season in the capital for only the second time. The other occasion was their 3-2 win at Chelsea in August 2017, when goals from Steven Ward, Steven Defour and Sam Vokes put them 3-0 up at half-time.
That win at Stamford Bridge was the last time Burnley won their opening game away from home.
Burnley have lost their last three Premier League opening-day fixtures. Their most recent win was a 3-0 victory over Southampton in 2019.
Wilson Odobert is Burnley’s youngest ever Premier League goalscorer - he was 18 years and 313 days old when he scored the opener in the eventual 4-1 loss to Chelsea in 2023.
