Burnley’s struggles in the Championship continued with a dismal 4-1 defeat to Norwich at Carrow Road.
The Clarets conceded three goals in the first twenty minutes, something which hasn’t happened to them in the Championship since August 2008 - the last opponent to do so was Sheffield Wednesday.
. The Clarets were two goals down inside five minutes after Mo Touré and Andre Brooks struck early, before Touré added his second to make it 3-0. Josh Laurent gave Burnley brief hope with an excellent 20-yard finish, but Norwich remained in control and Brooks restored the three-goal advantage in the second half.
Despite a poor first half, a slightly improved second half followed, alas the clarets still conceded 4 goals for the first time in the second tier since the 5-2 defeat to Sheffield United in 2022. The result also sees Burnley lose consecutive championship games for the First time since 2013. To add to the Claret misery, they have slipped into the Championship bottom 3 for the first time since August 2015.
Player ratings
Max Weiß - 3/10: There was little he could do about the first three goals, but the fourth was different. He should have dealt with that moment with much more confidence.
Kyle Walker - 2/10:
Another really poor show from Walker, who looked a yard off the pace and far too easy to get at defensively. He struggled with runners in behind, rarely looked comfortable when isolated and did little to justify his place in the side. For a player of his experience, the lack of control and authority was especially disappointing. Hayen now has a serious call to make, because on current form Walker’s starting place should be under real pressure.
Anel Azhmenhdozic - 4/10: Some credit is deserved on his full debut, but he was sloppy in giving the ball away for the first goal.
Max Allyene - 4.5/10: The new partnership is proving slow to get going and clearly needs time. He still looks as though he is trying to play the Pep way.
Connor Roberts - 4.5/10: Used out of position. It did not work under Kompany and, based on these notes, it did not work today either.
Josh Laurent - 6/10: A bright spark, took his goal well. He was unlucky to be sent off.
Hannibal - 5/10: Much like last week, this was a quiet game from him.
Aaron Ramsey - 4.5/10: Looked as though he was not physical enough for what Hayen wants.
Jacob Brunn Larsen - 5.5/10: There were glimpses of quality, but the overall performance was not good enough.
Zian Flemming - 5.5/10: Based on Burnley’s performance here, there would be no qualms if Flemming were to leave.
Dastan Satpaev - 6/10: Like at Bradford, he was very bright and attack-minded. A bright spark in a dark day for the Clarets.
