Experienced goalkeeper training with Clarets
Experienced goalkeeper Ben Amos has been training with Burnley as he looks to stay sharp ahead of the new season.
The former Manchester United academy graduate has joined Burnley’s sessions in recent weeks, keeping his fitness levels up while weighing up his next move. At this stage, there has been no indication that his time with the Clarets will lead to a permanent deal, but training with the squad gives Amos the chance to work in a competitive environment as he remains available.
Now 36, Amos has enjoyed a long career in English football, making more than 300 senior appearances. Best known for his spells with Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers, he has built a reputation as a dependable goalkeeper with plenty of Championship and League One experience.
It’s not unusual for clubs to invite unattached players to train during pre-season or between transfer windows. It benefits both sides, with the player maintaining match fitness while the club gets another experienced professional involved in training.
For Burnley, having someone like Amos around adds quality and experience to the goalkeeping group. Even if it’s only temporary, experienced players can help raise standards on the training pitch and offer guidance to younger members of the squad.
Whether Amos’ stay at Burnley develops into anything more remains to be seen. For now, the veteran goalkeeper is simply getting valuable minutes on the training ground as he prepares for whatever comes next in his career.
